More to Discover at the ISO

Tuesday, April 26, 2011 by The Intern-al Report
AndreaUnfortunately, this is my last week as an ISO intern. I have had a great three months learning from the wonderful people here at the Symphony, exploring orchestral music, meeting the musicians and doing lots of writing for them. What a fun experience!

Although I'm graduating and moving on to new opportunities, I have a feeling I will never really 'get away' from the Symphony. I know I'll be back to chat with the people I've met here and, of course, to attend some of the great upcoming concerts!

The final Stella Artois Happy Hour at the Symphony concert is quickly approaching and I will definitely be here to eat, drink and cheer on Time for Three and the Orchestra on May 19! They'll be doing an exciting mashup of a classic and a pop hit that I don't want to miss--and neither do you. This event is the perfect gathering for young professionals, so I'm sure I will be heading to Indy's best happy hour many times in the future. At only $20 per ticket, this is one event I can afford on a young college grad's budget!

Symphony on the Prairie is absolutely calling my name! After watching the rain tap on my KUwindow for the last two weeks, lying on the grass letting rays of Indiana sunshine hit me as I listen to fantastic hits sounds just about perfect. I'm still trying to decide whether the music of The Beatles, Elton John and Billy Joel, or Arlo Guthrie and Time for Three is most enticing--maybe I'll just have to come back for all three!

And of course, one of the most exciting moments at the ISO this year will be the beginning of the Urbanski era, which officially kicks off with Urbanski's Debut at the Opening Gala September 16-17 as part of the Lilly Classical Series. His perspective as a young conductor, outrageous talent and cultural uniqueness are sure to bring fresh energy to the already talented and passionate Orchestra. I certainly plan on being here to see the Urbanski era in full swing!

If you're interested in doing an internship with the Indianapolis Symphony, check out the open positions on their website. It will be a great way to meet new people, learn vital skills and have a lot of fun!
