A Sneak Peek at My Desk

This is my sixth week at the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and I am finally starting to get my desk organized. Just a little behind, right?

It does my Type A heart good to see a freshly-organized stack of manila file folders labeled and stuffed and sitting in my desk organizer next to my stacks of ISO program books and collateral materials. What can I say, I'm a neat freak.

The best part of organizing my desk was that as I separated my messy stack of papers, I realized just how many exciting projects I am working on with the ISO right now. To give you a glimpse into what we're up to, here are what the labels on my manila folders say:

-Symphony on the Prairie-I can't give away too much about this year's summer concerts, but I can tell you that preparation is in full swing! SOTP is a great Indianapolis summer event that unites beautiful Indiana summers and incredible ISO music at Conner Prairie. We are planning some really exciting events in our quest to top last year's record-breaking series, and we can't wait to release our lineup in the next few weeks!

-2011-2012 Season-Everyone here at the ISO has also been busy prepping for next season! I can't wait for our new music director, Krzysztof Urbanski, to return and add his exciting flair to the ISO's great classical music programming. Be looking for more info on next season, coming mid-March!

-Time for Three-I have the pleasure of working on the website that celebrates Time for Three's residency with the ISO. We'll be reorganizing the layout and adding some great new content in the coming weeks. The guys will even be sharing their thoughts on music and their ISO residency on the site's revamped blog!

-Musician Bios-Everyone has a story and musicians tend to have taken especially fascinating paths in life. We're going deep and learning more about each of our musicians as we update their biographies on our website. Some of the new biographies that I've been writing and editing are already up, so take a look and get to know our musicians better. A few tidbits to whet your appetite: Nancy Agres is on a quest to visit all of the U.S. National Parks and Dinah Montgomery failed a third grade music test but still went on to become a world-class violinist.

-Program Book-The 2010-2011 season is wrapping up, but there are still plenty of great concerts left, including a Stella Artois Happy Hour at the Symphony, great classical performances like Joshua Bell playing Tchaikovsky and Zach DePue playing Vivaldi's Four Seasons, fun pops concerts like Choruses of Hollywood and a special event with Dennis DeYoung playing the music of Styx. I'm working on some of the content for our May/June program book now and it's going to be a good one!

With so much going on at the ISO, it's a good thing I finally organized my desk. Now it's time to get to work!
