This week is one of those unusual weeks in the ISO calendar when the orchestra players are just, well, everywhere. Four outdoor locations to be exact. Welcome to the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra - al fresco style!
On Thursday, July 14, we travel west to the lovely town of Danville, Indiana and perform at the picturesque amphitheatre in Ellis Park. Danville boasts just over 8,000 residents and to my naked eye, it seems like at least half of these friendly folks enthusiastically attend this annual performance. It doesn't matter what we play, Danville shows up.

On Friday and Saturday, it's another set of performances at Conner Prairie's Amphitheatre for our Marsh Symphony on the Prairie series featuring the "Sinatra Songbook." I listened to some of the rehearsal through my office speakers yesterday, and I could've sworn the vocalist Steve Lippia missed the rehearsal and the orchestra had to use old audio of Sinatra himself. Steve is *that* good. And who on earth wouldn't enjoy listening to crooning in this setting?

On Sunday, July 17 at 8 p.m., the orchestra makes its debut at the Wild Air Farms in Zionsville. Owned by Liz Johnson, this horse farm is home one of the most famous national horse shows in the country--the Traders Point Hunt Charity Horse Show. I don't have a picture yet of the beautiful acreage that the Indianapolis Symphony will perform on, but I will be taking some photographs on Sunday and will post them soon afterward. Tickets to this "Symphony Under the Stars" concert are here.

And finally, the ISO returns to the east side of Indianapolis for its annual "Symphony in the Park" concert on Tuesday, July 19 at 7:30 p.m. Thanks to our friends at Community Hospital East, Indianapolis Power & Light and Indy Parks and Recreation, thousands of Indy residents enjoy a FREE orchestra performance right in their own backyards. Ellenberger Park is located at 5309 E. St. Clair Street. Join us!
