My mother was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia on June 18, 1999. It was a horrific summer as she spent a month in the hospital. Was home, going to get blood/platelets every week. December of 1999, my grandmother, her mother passed away. Our family had gone through a lot of emotions. The week after my grandmother's funeral we planned to have an early Christmas. We decided to start off our Christmas Celebration Weekend by going to the Yuletide Celebration on a Friday nite. It was neat to dress up and go downtown. I loved watching my mother smile and laugh at various scenes of Yuletide. She especially loved to see Little Children all dressed up. After Yuletide, we went to Bucca de Beppo for Dinner. Mom decided to order a beer. We all laughed. She said I am celebrating getting thru these past 6 months, not sure I should have the beer, but I am going to anyway. We then did a toast to my Grandmother and a Great Yuletide Celebration. In December of 2000, my mother spent most of December in IU Med Center. I remember saying to her as she lay in the bed at IU, "Remember the fun Yuletide Celebration last year." She smiled and said, "I sure do!" Good Memories help you through tough times. She passed away on August 29, 2001. I will never forget going to the Yuletide Celebration with her!!
