A Family Tradition

Wednesday, December 1, 2010 by Everyone's a Critic
I am sixteen years old and have gone to every Yuletide with my aunt, mom, and sister since I was two years old, so it has sort of become a family tradition. Every year I look forward to seeing who is going to host Yuletide and what special performances they will have. There have been some pretty amazing hosts and performances over the years, from the classic tap dancing Santas and The Night Before Christmas to once in a life time experiences like the African Children’s Choir. As soon as you walk in the doors the sights and smells really make you feel like you walked into something amazing. Before you do anything, you have to get a Santa shaped cookie and milk; then you can walk around and take in the rest of the sights. When the bells ring you know it is time to find your seat for you do not want to miss a single minute. The lights dim and the orchestra starts to play a medley of Christmas songs. As you sit in your seat your eyes go wide watching the musicians play their instruments so fast they look like they might just break in two. Then you hear it, the voices you could not wait to hear. The choir comes out in their Christmas attire and the whole theater goes quiet. Their voices carry throughout the theater and you feel like you are floating on every word they sing. Then the best host Yuletide has ever had comes out, Sandi Patty. She starts to sing and everyone claps for you know that this is going to be an amazing show. As the night goes on you are on the edge of your seat trying to take in everything that is going on. You hold onto every word of every song that is sung and performance that is put on for you want to be just like that when you grow up. When the night is over, you cannot stop smiling and replaying every thing that went on for you want to hold it in your memory until next year. Yuletide has been an amazing part of my life that I plan on sharing with my children.
