Free tickets one year started a tradition with a great friend.

Thursday, December 2, 2010 by Everyone's a Critic
A neighbor-friend somehow got free comp tickets to the show the first year that we lived in Indy many years ago. I went with my neighbor the first year and did not know what to expect. We had such a great time that we decided to make it an annual outting for the two of us. My friend has since moved away two years ago, but so far she has always made a trip back to Indy so that she can go to the Yuletide Celebration with me.

…Yuletide Quarrels Being Won by a Child…

Monday, November 29, 2010 by Everyone's a Critic
We were taking our places in the first few seats of Row N when an argument ensued. As is customary for us, I had gone in first, sitting in the seat next to “the stranger.” My teenage son Parker had halted in the aisle, making way for his brother Mason to take the seat beside me. Mason held back and waved Parker in ahead of him. Parker refused. “I’m not sitting next to her,” he said, looking at me with feigned disgust. “Oh, yes, you are,” Mason stated emphatically. “No way,” Parker asserted. “I...Read More »

Jake's First Yuletide

Monday, November 29, 2010 by Everyone's a Critic
My husband and I have attended the Coffee Pops Concert Series since before he retired in 1991. In 2000, Yuletide Celebration was a part of the Pops Series and I was really looking forward, as always, to the event. Unfortunately that week, our daughter-in-law's grandfather died and his funeral was the day of the concert. We offered to keep both grandsons that day while she and our son traveled to northern Indiana to be with her family. But what to do about our Yuletide tickets! After talking it...Read More »

Vivid memories!

Friday, November 26, 2010 by Everyone's a Critic
When I think back on past Holiday seasons, the Yuletide Celebration always holds priority in my rolodex of memories. I'm 26 years old now and still remember, vividly, my visits to the Yuletide Celebration as a little girl. The giddiness covered over me as my family filed through the doors of the Hilbert Circle Theater. Out of the crisp December air and away from the streets where horse's hooves could be heard trotting around Monument Circle. Colorful hues of light radiated from the top of the...Read More »

Beloved Memory

Thursday, November 25, 2010 by Everyone's a Critic
In 2005 my daughter Heather and I were celebrating being, not only Mom and daughter, but finally learning to be friends. We heard about the Yuletide Celebration on the radio, if i remember correctly and began to pray about going. The money came and we got tickets and we were indeed blessed. She and i laughed and cried and then got a picture taken beside the tree, and although i no longer possess the picture, I will always hold dear that memory. My daughter has been out on her own for several...Read More »

Seriously, you need to see this.

Wednesday, November 24, 2010 by Everyone's a Critic
In December 1997, I was halfway through my sophomore year at Butler. I had just started taking harp lessons in January, and my harp teacher, Diane Evans, was the principal harpist with ISO. She knew how much I loved musicals and pops concerts, so she told me in November that I absolutely must check out Yuletide at the Symphony. I balked. First of all, tickets were almost $20 at the time, and as a broke college student, that sounded ridiculous. I didn't know anything about the show, and I wasn't...Read More »

Happy 25th Birthday Yuletide!

Tuesday, November 23, 2010 by Everyone's a Critic
Today is my 29th birthday and December 4 will be my 25th Yuletide Celebration. As I have been receiving wonderful cards and calls from friends all day, I have realized that my birthday memories through the years have always been connected to the Yuletide Celebration and want to take a moment to reflect on my favorite memories through the years. We had recently moved to Indianapolis when my dad saw the advertisement for a new type of Christmas show taking place at the Hilbert Circle Theatre, The...Read More »

My First and Only Yuletide Celebration

Sunday, November 21, 2010 by Everyone's a Critic
I remember when I was eleven years old, I attended the Yuletide Christmas Celebration in December of 2004. A neighbor of mine gave my mother and me tickets to the Yuletide show. We were both very excited because we had never been before because we could not afford the tickets. I remember when we entered into the orchestra; I stood in awe of the beautiful decorations that were placed throughout the lobby and theatre. The decorations were magical and made me feel the Christmas spirit all around....Read More »

The Musical Archaeologists of Pink Martini

Friday, November 19, 2010 by Jessica Di Santo

Here's round two from our guest blogger and Pink Martini super-fan, Jayne Glick. Jayne is a student at IUPUI at the Herron School of Art & Design, majoring in Visual Communication Design. She has been a Pink Martini fan for about five years.

Jayne GlickI’ve been a Pink Martini fan for a while and although I know their albums well, I didn’t really know too much about the people in the band and how it all began. So I decided to do some research and share my results. Believe it or not, how they got started is...

Not Tradition, but NECESSITY!

Friday, November 19, 2010 by Everyone's a Critic
Although I grew up in Indiana, I had never been to the Yuletide until 2005 when my boyfriend and I purchased tickets for ourselves and my cousin and her husband. We girls made the boys dress up a bit giving us an excuse to buy new outfits and "doll up" a bit! From the minute the curtain went up, I was in love with the show. We left that evening feeling more like kids than the exhausted 25 year olds who were busting our bums to make names for ourselves in the working world. Tap Dancing Santas??!!...Read More »

I remember

Thursday, November 18, 2010 by Everyone's a Critic
I remember the first time we as a family attended the Yuletide Celebration, it was the buzz all over, people everywhere had attended the year before and they just talked with such ah. We as a family purchased tickets and I remember the warm feeling as we walked into the Circle theather, I was so impressed and then the show started, I felt like a 5 year old, I was totally amazed with the show-I didn't want to miss one single moment. We as a family enjoyed the experience and afterwards went to...Read More »

No one knew cookies were so funny

Wednesday, November 17, 2010 by Everyone's a Critic
In Dec. 2006 my mother and I were lucky enough to score 2 front-row tickets to Yuletide. It was a weeknight, and it being December everything was rush rush rush -- hurry from work, to Weight Watchers, grab a bite to eat and find our seats. Whew! Did you catch that bit about Weight Watchers. It'll be important in a minute. Mike Eldred was the host that year (and I would love to see him come back), and the variety acts were spectacular. However, when a group of young men started in on a love song...Read More »

My fondest memory

Wednesday, November 17, 2010 by Everyone's a Critic
My ex mother in law gave me tickets to the Yuletide Celebration. It was the first time my 10 yr old daughter had been to a "formal" theatre. It snowed that night, and of course we did the walk around the circle to see the lights. She fell in love with Theatre after that. She is now a Theatre design student at Ball State University.

magical evening out

Wednesday, November 17, 2010 by Everyone's a Critic
When our daughters we little, 5, 8,and 11 ( they are now 25, 28, and 31) my husband got tickets through his work and we went to our first Yuletide event. The girls and I got all dressed up and we "encouraged" him to as well. hehe. We drove downtown and we were just mesmerized by what we saw. The girls started asking the next year about the first of november are we going to the Yuletide daddy? So for many years that was our annual event for the holidays. The girls would love getting dressed up...Read More »

AMAZING

Wednesday, November 17, 2010 by Everyone's a Critic
A couple years ago my husband asked me if I wanted to go to the Yuletide Celebration. Little did I know I would want this to be an annual family outing from that moment on. He had got the tickets through his work and we made a date night out of it and I left so amazingly surprised. I never dreamed how beautiful and entertaining that evening would be. I enjoyed every moment of it and would be so excited to win tickets to it this year. Unfortunately we have been unable to return an if I won this...Read More »

MEMORIES

Tuesday, November 16, 2010 by Everyone's a Critic
My memories go way back to when my grandmother Alberta Eaton used to take us to the symphony. We used to attend church as a large family first and then make our way down town to see the Yuletide Celebration. From pulling up on the circle and walking into the crowded pavilion we always knew we were in for a great show. Alberta would always go out of her way and get us tickets up front close to the stage. As the show started us grandkids loved the sounds of the symphony while watching the...Read More »

Go Tell It On the Mountain

Wednesday, November 10, 2010 by Everyone's a Critic
Several years ago, possibly the year Daniel Rodriguez hosted, one of the female performers sang, solo, Go Tell It On the Mountain. I wish I could remember her name. It was one of the most powerful renditions I have ever heard of that song. It brought tears to my eyes. It is difficult to find my favorite among so many fantastic performances, but that memory stands out among the so many good memories I have of the Yuletide Celebration. The first Yuletide performance I attended was about six years...Read More »

Reindeer

Tuesday, November 2, 2010 by Everyone's a Critic
Last year was the first time I had been to the Duke Energy Yuletide Celebration. My husband bought tickets and we got to go on our wedding anniversary, which was perfect. When the ISO played and the puppeteers flew the reindeer down the aisles, I cried. It was so much fun to have that happen and feel like a little kid, just for a moment. It just felt magical to see that and it's a memory I can't wait to share with my son and my soon to be born child as well.
